Cambodian riel (KHR) is the official currency. However, US dollars are in common use. Most businesses in the country, especially hotels, restaurants, airlines, markets, and souvenir shops set their prices in US dollars. Change of less than one dollar is given in riel.

Purchasing a phone number/SIM card.
You can purchase a SIM card and telephone number from any of the many phone shops scattered across town. It can be purchased for as little as $1.50; sometimes even get it for free. A valid passport and visa are required.
Banks and ATMs in Cambodia
Banks in Cambodia provide currency and travelers check exchange, credit card advances, telegraphic transfers, and all regular banking services. Most banks are open from 8:00 to 3:00 or 4:00 pm for some; Mondays through Fridays. Some are open Saturday mornings until 11:30 am.
ATMs, located all across town, are active 24/7 and accept Visa and MasterCard. The machines dispense US dollars as well as Cambodian riel depending on one’s preference.

Credit Cards in Cambodia
Visa, MasterCard, and ANZ cards are the most widely accepted credit cards in Cambodia. AMEX is accepted at a few places while Diners Club at fewer places. Many businesses charge a fee on credit card payment.
Traveler’s checks are accepted at most banks, major hotels, and some money changers.
Cash Transfers in Cambodia
‘Instant’ cash transfers can be done through Western Union or MoneyGram. Ordinary telegraphic transfers are available at all major banks.
Visa on Arrival in Cambodia
Visa on Arrival can be obtained at the Visa Counters upon arrival at either of the International Airports; Phnom Penh or Siem Reap. However, please note that not all foreign passport holders can apply for a visa on arrival. It is therefore important to check with the nearest Royal Embassy of Cambodia for the specific visa requirements for the countries in question.
